I just registered for a free dyndns host service and am trying to set up port forwarding to enable VNC for my three home Macs. Can some please walk a non-IT person through how to set this up? Can you please include how to enable remote access to my Airport Extreme? Thank you very much in advance. |

I'm looking to host my own domain name. I purchased the custom DNS service from DynDNS. I just installed Snow Leopard Server on a mac mini to use as a web/mail/ftp server for personal use and to learn from as well. I'm at the Network setup screen and was wondering how I should go about configuring this. I have it currently set as Configure IPv4 (Using DHCP) IP Address: 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.1.1 DNS Server: (looks like numbers given from my ISP) Search Domain: (nj.comcast.net) DHCP Client ID: (blank) Should I change the DNS Server and Search Domain to anything, or leave it as the default with my ISP? Should I use the DynDNS Server IP's for it? ------ Part 2. Can I host multiple services on the same server with a single IP address? (ie HTTP, MAIL, FTP?) If I do setup these services, I would need to setup subdomains such as www.domain.com mail.domain.com and ftp.domain.com - right? how do I configure this in the control panel as well as on the server? I know about Port Forwarding on the router, so I'll have ports 80, 21, and 25 open and set for my local IP 192.168.1.100 ----- Part 3. Sorry, no part 3 yet. ;-) Thanks! |

Having trouble with setup on my account - apologize in advanced if it has been covered but I have searched. Router is D-Link DIR655 and I have a D-Link DNS323 NAS on the network as well. I have Custom DNS service with the following: Hostname: mydomain.com; A-record; Details: 192.168.0.19x (last updated 15 mins ago) www.mydomain.com; Alias (CNAME); Details: mydomain.com ftp.mydomain.com; Alias (CNAME); Details: mydomain.com In my DIR655 router setup under Dynamic DNS, I have: www.DynDNS.com (Custom) Hostname: mydomain.com Username or Key: [my DynDNS u/n] Password or Key: [my DynDNS p/w] Verify Password or Key: [my DynDNS p/w] Timeout: 576 (hours) Status: Connected On my DIR655 status page, I have: WAN IP: 72.79.xxx.xxx LAN IP: 192.168.0.1 DHCP enabled LAN Computers Computer 1: 192.168.0.19y Computer 2: 192.168.0.19z DNS323 NAS: 192.168.0.19x (which matches the Details IP in my DynDNS details) For my virtual server settings on the DIR655 router FTP with public and private port of 56x pointing to 192.168.0.19x (the DNS323 NAS) HTTP with public private port of 80 pointing to 192.168.0.19x (the DNS323 NAS) I can access ftp internally by going to 192.168.0.19x and have no problems using it. I can access ftp internally by going to ftp.mydomain.com and have no problems using it. I can not access ftp from say a friend's computer on their own home network by going to ftp.mydomain.com I think the problem is - is the DynDNS page, it say my details, ie, IP address is 192.168.0.19x - which to the outside world it is not, it is, for now, 72.79.xxx.xxx If I go to my ftp client and try to access ftp at 72.79.xxx.xxx:56x, I can get it fine, same if I try from my friend's computer and their network. It seems I need to get the router to tell DynDNS my WAN IP is 72.79.xxx.xxx and not 192.168.0.19x What am I doing wrong? Should I just use the software client updater? Also, the D-Link DNS323 NAS has the ability to configure for a DDNS, but I have it inactive, assuming that the router should be able to take care of it. Thank you for your attention and patience with a newb. Also, I have a Synology NAS coming that I will just be using for web server so my virtual server will be pointing away from the DNS323 shortly to that, but that is a few says away. |

I want to setup my Genius IPSecurecam300 with ADSL Allied Telesis 236 and connect with Linksys WRT54GL My ADSL address is 192.168.1.1 and my router is 192.168.1.2 with DHCP enabled with address 192.168.100.x What is the right way to setup? Which DMZ should enabled, ADSL Allied Telesis or wifi router Linksys, or both? which setting DDNS should be enabled, at the wifi router or at the IPCam inside or both? I've tried to setup,Until now everytime I access dyndns address e.g.myaddress.dyndns.org, it always goes to ADSL login page. So I need to convert to my router which is already available. For example, I access 192.168.1.2 it is already goes to my IPCam, so I need the address like myadress.dyndns.org goes to 192.168.1.2 (my router) or my IP camera address like 192.168.100.x (x is address of my IP cam inside the Wifi Router) I appreciate the support and answer.... Thank you very much. |
Q-SEE CAMERA WITH HOSTNAME

The Tech's from Q-SEE did all the configuration --router, modem, laptop and cameras. These cameras are located in second home. They also did port fowarding. Since I have a laptop (the one used for the remote configuration) I took the laptop to my primary residence and was able to view my cameras remotely using the external IP address. Q-SEE suggest that I sign up and create hostname via dyndns.com this way I dont always have to type my ip address. Hostname also works remotely on this laptop. Its a xxxx.selfip.com address.Today I provided the website name to my brother (in another residence and using another computer) and he said that it asks him to download this software "dvrocx.cab". Since it didnt work for him I asked my sister to try it as well in another residence and using another computer and her computer showed the admin screen for my camera but it told her the password and user name did not match. But it should have worked as I gave her the right information. Why are these two people in different locations getting different results and what should I do to remedy the issue? |

I am attempting to setup a VPN connection for my son and am having a devil of a time. Hopefully someone may have some idea of what needs to go where. Hardware: Linksys WRVS4400N - Office router Netgear WPN824 - Home router Both office and home are using Windstream/Alltel as ISP. The linksys router has provisions for me to enter in the DynDNS information. And that is what I have done. But I'm not sure that is the correct thing to do. Is it? I question it because the when I log onto the DynDNS site here, show my hosts, it show me an IP address of 192.168.254.1. Under the IPaddress box it will show an IP of something like 75.110.35.84 (These are not the actual IP addrs by the way). Then, when I downloaded the IP update tool onto the server, that gives me yet another IP addr. SO. Should I be using the addr comnig from the server via the IP Update tool, the router or ????? Thanks in Advance. Bill |

DynDNS Updater - IP Check Blocked in China - Workarounds?

Machine & Equipment *XP Pro SP2 *Updater 4.08 (installed with and without 'service' option) *Updater 3.0.0.7 (installed this after uninstalling 4.08 while I was trouble-shooting) *Home/Office Network with 3 computers + 1 NAS *D-Link DI-604 Router Problem *Cannot detect my public IP (because of China Great Firewall) Synopsis I am based in China and cannot access http://checkip.dyndns.org/ as the (I am assuming) Great Firewall blocks this site. I used a proxy server that bypasses said Great Firewall to confirm that I *can* access http://checkip.dyndns.org/ while troubleshooting to confirm that this is the problem (versus one version of the Updater having a problem). I am assuming that the Updater itself uses this same URL to get the IP address (?), so if it can't I get a IP address that then doesn't update - which defeats the reason that I want to use this service in the first place. Unfortunately I cannot use my proxy all the time (using it prevents me from seeing other computers on the network), so I need a workaround or other solution to make this work. Is there a way to configure the Updater to get the IP address another way and then report back to DynDNS? Because I can access the DynDNS domain name no problem. Are there other things I should be checking / trouble-shooting....? Thanks in advance, Andrew. |

Forward IP Address for DVR - no computer on site - Qwest

My ISP is Qwest and I have the Motorola 3347 I am trying to view my DVR (SVAT sec. system) set up at my buisness, but because the IP keeps changing I can no longer view it remotely. The biggest problem is that I don't have a computer there, the DVR is connected directly to the Router/modem. Obviously I had my laptop there to set everything up, but now I'd like it to work without it....so is there a way to have the IP address updated automatically through my router or something? I am not an extremely knowledgeable computer person, but I know the basics and have someone that can help me. What are my options? Here is the link to the Qwest motorolla modem http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems/motorola-3347/index.html?option=advanced |
Add this command on your Cisco router to prevent abuse

Well, this took me half an hour to figure out. Apparently Cisco's documentation on how to configure DynDNS missed one important command. When you configure DynDNS on Cisco router, you are required to set a maximum update interval of 28 days. However, they didn't mention anything about the minimum update interval. As a result, this causes the Cisco router to send out updates every 30 minutes, no maximum than 28 days. This action will trigger the abusive policy implemented by DynDNS. In order to solve this, all you have to do is add this command under your DynDNS update policy below: interval minimum 28 0 0 0 That will force the router not to send out any updates unless the following conditions are met: 1. The router gets a new IP address from the ISP. 2. Every 28 days. |

Saludos |

Hello, I'm fighting with the issue already 4 days and can't get any glue. I've set up an wrt54G2 with dd-wrt mico, which is running correct. I got access to the internet with public reachable IP, which I can access from other locations in the internet. My router is currently providing web-gui-services as well as a ssh-console access and a web-redirect to a server behind the router in the private area. I can access all the services via the WAN-IP the provider gave to me. I crated an dyndns-account and a host, which I would like to update with my WNA-IP via dd-wrt built in inadyn. I configured inadyn on differnet ways, what finally ended up in the same result: Code: Sat Feb 28 11:50:33 2009: INADYN: Started 'INADYN Advanced version 1.96-ADV' - dynamic DNS updater. Sat Feb 28 11:53:42 2009: W: DYNDNS: Error 'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) when talking to IP server Sat Feb 28 11:53:42 2009: W:'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) updating the IPs. (it 0) Sat Feb 28 12:06:57 2009: W: DYNDNS: Error 'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) when talking to IP server Sat Feb 28 12:06:57 2009: W:'RC_IP_CONNECT_FAILED' (0x13) updating the IPs. (it 1) I started inadyn testing via cli with: Code: ~# inadyn -u username -p passwort --update_period_sec 600 --dyndns_system dyndns@dyndns.org --alias hostname.dnsalias.org I can reach and resolve all dyndns.org and dyndns.com addresses with nslookup quite fast. how can i test whether i have an network issue in dyndns.org direction? what would be a correct inadyn configuration? thanx in advance |
