I registered a domain on godaddy. Let's call it http://mydomain1.com I would like to point it on a server... Is this possible using dyndns? Do I need a pro account? Can it be made without showing the real url ( no cheap forwarding) ? Thanks for your help! |

Log into your GoDaddy account and go to the domain manager. Open the dashboard for the domain you wish to manage, mydomain1.com. You will see on the upper left side a +Forwarding button, click it. It will have a place to enter the FREE (or paid) DYNDNS domain name you selected. Let's say you made myDogSpot on the server mypets.ws. Leave the drop down on http:// and put myDogSpot.mypets.ws in the box next to it (note: this part of the URL is not case sensitive). Now click on the advanced options and change it from the default to Forward With Masking... this hides the URL shown in the browser so people will only see www.mydomain1.com. Allow 24 hours for the DNS servers to propogate and your server will now be at your registered URL http://www.mydomain1.com |

Well, you could do that with a WebHop. However there are limitations with that approach that you need to be aware of. You would need to purchase Custom DNS for your domain to use a WebHop. If you can it would be a cleaner solution to use virtual hosts (vhosts][4]) on your existing web server. However if your existing domain (I'm assuming you're not the owner of either http://mydomain1.com or http://myserver.com - both real domains) is hosted on a shared hosting platform you may not be able to do that. |

well the correct syntax would have been http://anything.mydomain1.com or redirected as http://mydomain1.com/myserver but while we are using fictious names I'll do the same with addresses. lets assume http://mydomain1.com has an ip address of 192.168.0.1 and you wanna call this site.. http://mychickenscratch.dyndns.org then you update dyndns to have a "mychickenscratch.dyndns.org " and put in the ip address of http://mydomain1.com ( 192.168.0.1 fictious ) and poof the world can see your chicken scratch and no real domain names are mentioned I hope thats what you were asking if not I am totally confused now The forwarding syntax Anonymous provided is just fine. Unfortunately your answer doesn't really address his question about URL forwarding.
