Hi I'm setting up my nieces/nephews computer using DynDNS & Internet Guide on my dynamic IP address. I've set up an account for that computer and an IG profile set at the kids' filter level. I will return the pre-configured computer to them where they will use it from their own dynamic IP address. I want to make sure I understand how this will now work for both our addresses. I assume once it's at their address, that computer will update the IP and use the settings I've configured on their account -- the one set to log in when the DynDNS Updates is loaded on startup? Meanwhile, my computer has a separate account with only basic (ads, spyware, viruses) filter settings. At the moment, when I test their computer from my home address and my IP, that account becomes active and blocks at the kids' settings for both computers. Just making sure once it leaves, I can resume my lower level settings with no overlap. Or am I missing something? Many thanks, George |

You'll need to ensure that they have a separate DynDNS account, and Internet Guide settings - it's not clear that you've done that. If you do that then their Internet Guide settings will follow their computer, once it's updated at their address you'll no longer be affected by the settings on their account. Oops, I believe you're really in error here, sorry.

It should be fine once the other computer moves, it's just that interm period where strange things will happen.

That's right, because it (hopefully) has its unique IP address then.

Hi: Yes, I set up two accounts. That answers my question. Many thanks! George |

Unfortunately, this will not work as expected, and the results will be really confusing. Because all the computers are just behind one public dynamic IP address, the filtering results will be picked rather randomly, in a kind of altering way, so that sometimes the settings of the one defense plan take effect, sometime the settings of the other defense plan, on each computer. The reason is that DynDNS just sees your public IP address to identify your network, no matter what computer or other device in your network has raised a lookup, and IG would randomly select a related defense plan. Other similar services prevent this from happening while allowing an IP address just once throughout their system. This again has other disadvantages... Btw, I have tried this out myself, with different defense plans and different hostnames. |

I still don't know why but I have a set of security cameras active at a Fla. location and another set active at a penna. location. They have 2 different host names and 2 different ip numeric dynamic address, both area computers are up and running Dyndns software. When in Fla I view Penna and when in penna I View Fla.however when the update occurs both addresses are updated to the same numeric dynamic address at one of the two routers. If it continues I will try a different service for the second computer. I don't know if this will solve it or not. Please, ask your own question don't post it as an answer to somebody else's unrelated question.
