General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have my Linksys WRT160N set up to update. It seemed to be doing fine, despite not being listed on the certified hardware list (it's also not on the unapproved hardware, I might add), but now all of a sudden I get a message saying my account is going to expire.

So here's the setup in Setup > DDNS

Host Name: http://wxl.doesntexist.com
System: Dynamic
Mail Exchange (Optional):
Backup MX: Enabled * Disabled
Wildcard: Enabled * Disabled
Internet IP Address: 98.232.225.243
Status: DDNS is updated successfully

What gives?

It sounds like the Linksys doesn't touch the hostname every 25-30 days. Check to see if there's a more recent firmware. If there isn't one option would be an account upgrade, which removes the expiry.

This is normal if your IP address changes rarely. What it means is that your router only updates when the IP actually changed (which generally is a good trait).

For free accounts, however, DynDNS requires some activity at least every 30 days, to confirm that the hostname (and account) is still actively used. Most software update clients take care of this by "forcing" an update every 30 days (even though the IP didn't change).
