hi guys. i've already setup the local ip cams working using the linksys router. i've also configured the router for port forwarding. each camera has a port address of 50000, 50001, 50002, and 50003. when i try to access http://myhome.dyndns.org:50002 from the local PC within the network, i get to the ip cam. but when i try it from another computer, i always get a time out. my question is, i have setup NAT setting in the router to automatically update http://dyndns.org website. but the laptop computer, i have also setup a client dyndns software that also updates the website http://dyndns.org. if both pc and router updates the http://dyndns.org website, would that be the problem? another questions is, should my laptop pc have an IP address, subnet mask and gateway? right now, it's set to obtain ip address dynamically. i hope you can help me. been with this problem for days now. |

Only one device should update any single hostname - if you use more than one your account may be blocked for abuse. As for the cameras - have you set up port forwarding for each? Do they have a fixed IP on your network (with the correct netmask and gateway)? Do you have a router and an ADSL modem? |

Hi! Thanks for the speedy reply. No, the PC doesn't have subnet mask and gateway but the ip cameras, they already have. i placed the port forwarding in the router. the same one i use locally. so camera with port 5000 on my lan setup, i also use the same port config for the router. i will try to uninstall the PC DYNDNS clicent so that only the router updates the DYNDNS account. each camera has a fixed IP on the network. I am able to see the whole 5 camera setup on local LAN. but when i try http://xxx.dyndns.org:50000 , on a computer on another location, i get a timeout error. but if i use the PC with the same url (xxx.dyndns.org:50000), it connects to the cameras. How will I know what gateway and dns server to copy to the other cameras? Is it found on the modem? or from the isp provider? as i was setting up the cameras after i press the reset button, i found that the dns servers and gateway have already been configured by themselves. last question. should the pc i am using on the network have an ip address subnet and gateway? right now, it's set to dynamic. thanks so much. jeff |

Dynamic (DHCP) sets the IP, netmask and default gateway automatically. The outstanding question is - do you have just a router or do you also have an ADSL modem? What are the first 2 numbers of your router's WAN IP address (eg 10.15.x.x)? |
