General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have never set up a dvr to view remotly. I have done it localy plenty of times. I understand how it works Im just wondering about how to set up DynDNS and where to put it at ? In the Dvr or in the router. I guess if any one could give me a step by step would be great.

1 Answer:

I'd start here and with the other questions tagged dvr.

The overall process is:

  1. Configure one device to update your Dynamic DNS hostname, this device must always be on - the external router or modem (where they work) are usually the best choice
  2. Configure the DVR with a fixed IP address on your LAN
  3. Test from another host on the LAN
  4. Configure port forwarding
  5. Test remotely

Note that sometimes you can't access the DVR remotely, see this and this question. Even when it does you need sufficient upload bandwidth to stream the media.
