I have a netgear wnr834B rev2 router, I have tried to allow port 80 so I can view my dvr from other than my desktop/server but all the tests indicate the port is still blocked. My router is 10.0.0.1, PC/server 10.0.0.2, and dvr is set to 10.0.0.3 I tried adding this to the HOSTS file 10.0.0.1 Router Does not seem to do anything, I called my ISP they say they do not block ports except for port 25 (buisness use?) So I am running out of ideas. I can post whatever diagnostic needed if someone can help me through this. Thanks, Kristin |

First open port 80 tcp in the router directed to your computers internal ip address. Second make sure no other program is using port 80. You can test this using http://portforward.com's internal port scanner found here: http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm If an app is running it will report that it can't test the port because an application is blocking it. So the app you are using make sure it and it's services are off when you are testing the port. If an app shows up you know you have an app already on that port and you will have to go into the firewall to figure out which one it is. If you have this problem your port forwarding through all the firewalls will have to be reconfigured for one or the other to use a different port. You may have to open port 80 in the OS's firewall if you haven't done that already. After all of this goto dyndns's port open tool found here http://www.dyndns.com/support/tools/openport.html and you should get an open port. If you get an open port with the internal port checker but not the dyndns port checker your port is still not open in the OS's firewall. If I knew what OS you were using I could be more specific. I am runing xp-pro sp 3 , The test indicates that the port may be in use even when I reboot and have nothing running, very strange. Every port times out, so what does this indicate? I have port 80 allocated to the DVR in the firewall, is there a way to search other programs that could be calling for that port? I don't really care about changing to another port, just have no idea which one seems 8080 didn't work either when I tried it.

The entry "127.0.0.1 localhost" must always be the first one in the hosts file! – RotBlitz♦ 33 mins ago OK I will modify that, also the only ip reporting port 80 open is 127.0.0.1 with the dyndns openport tool

You've read that article I linked to? If so you should be able to tell us what step you've reached and exactly what step you're having problems with. The WAN (external) IP of your router does not start with You've disabled the XP firewall and the XP host has a fixed IP address on your LAN? You've forwarded port 80/TCP from your router to the (fixed) IP address of your XP host? |

My router does not show any ip for wan, looking up myip I get 75.61.97.141 from my isp, internaly the router is 10.0.0.1, the direct connected PC (server) is 10.0.0.2, and the DVR I have set to 10.0.0.3 XP firewall is NOT diabled but their is an entry for the DVR 10.0.0.3 on port 80. On the router basic setting Internet IP Address Get Dynamically From ISP which is same as above 75.61.... On the lan setting of the router is 00:18:F5:02:4C:B9 as the mac of the dvr, it is 10.0.0.3 and the lan ip is 10.0.0.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 rip = none rip version = disabled port forarding I have set start @ port 80, end @ port 80, with the server listed as 10.0.0.2 (which I take to be the HOST or server) Kristin |
