General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

This is my current setup:

XAMPP > Server > Modem (dynamic IP) > DynDNS (Free) > Godaddy (example.com)

I would like to avoid using Godaddy's forward with masking service, however for the A names as well as nameservers require it to be a IP address.

Seeing as I am currently using dynDNS as a hostname for my businesses dynamic IP address, I was wondering if there may be a service that I can use to somehow create a static IP as an A name or nameserver.

Please help!

Custom DNS is probably what you're after (http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/custom/). It won't create a static IP, since only your ISP can provide you with one of those. What it will do however is allow you to use your own domain and have a hostname in it updated with your ISP provided dynamic IP address, just as you're doing with Dynamic DNS.

If that doesn't answer your question please edit your question and explain what you want further help with.

No, you can leave your domain registration where it is, but you would move your DNS to Custom DNS.

As for hosting your site and other services, it's just a DNS service. It doesn't allow or deny any use. If you wanted to host things on your own network then if your ISP allows it you should be able to use Custom DNS to help you do what you want.

Hi Cry Havok, Thank you for your reply.

That would mean transferring my current domain to dyndns correct?

I simply want to host our website/VPN and other services internally on our servers rather than using a 3rd party hosting company.

Would the custom DNS allow that?

darkkon, I am exactly in the same situation as you. There is a lack of simple tutorial aimed at newbies. Its just a bit confusing what to change at domain provider (ex. Godaddy) and what to do at Dyn Standard Package interface, espcially when you want to host more than one site. I will watch this thread. Some one should be able to help us.
