General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi,

Ok here is what I have:

Netgear router with Sprint card for internet access Linksys camera attached to router

I can access both the camera and the router remotely (from outside the network) using the IP address & port number. (0.0.0.0:1024 and 0.0.0.0:8080)

But, I cannot access either with my dyndns name. I have tried it with and without the port numbers (www.mycam.dyndns.org and http://www.mycam.dyndns.org:8080) (these are made up BTW)

Can anyone tell what settings in the router I need to change?

Unless you've purchased the Pro service you can't use any prefix, only your hostname exactly as chosen (eg if you have mycam.dyndns.org you can only use that, not www.mycam.dyndns.org). Have you tried (from outside your LAN) using http://mycam.dyndns.org:8080?

I'm assuming of course that you've correctly configured port forwarding and have an installed, working, update client.

usually the netgear routers have the ability to update the http://dyndns.org with you usre name and password (for DYNDNS) If the ip address in you account is showing up correctly after the update then you should be able to use the domain name you purchased/setup with dyndns to access the device with the proper port numbers on the end of the name same as you do with the IP address. Make sure you use the domain name exactly as it is in your account. if you want to add www to it you will have to make sure that there is a cname in the dns settings pointing to the original domain name. If you have multiple ip addresses (devices) you are wanting to connect to with the same account you can add a cname to the original account http://cam1.mydomain.com and cam2. http://domain.com and point each to a different IP address.
