This may be my failure to understand or lack of knowledge of DNS as i am far from an expert (which is why im using dyndns's services after years of messing with bind). I run a hosting company and ever since i set my home network up to use the internet guide im having issues with subdomain propagation timing. From my understanding the subdomain dns should not have to "propagate" but it seems to be taking an inordinate amount of time (hours) to update. Example, i create a subdomain on a fully propagated and accessible domain (i.e. http://sub.mydomain.com) i open a new browser window and go to http://sub.mydomain.com and get the pretty dyndns "no such domain" window, this persists for hours. I flush my local resolver cache but i know this doesn't do much. I assume there is some serious caching going on as i've messed with barracuda boxes in the past and they are little more then a pretty interface to squid from what i understand. Being that squid is basically a caching proxy it stands to reason i would have this problem. My question is this, is there any way to force an cache update with internet guide? Right now im using the free version since i only need one defense plan, but if i need to upgrade to get such a feature id be happy to, i love the service so far. With 6 kids in the house, 3 of which teenagers, its a big help. As far as i see i have two options (unless theres some way to force an update), turn off internet guide altogether (which would suck) or configure my main computer to use the isp's dns and only work from it (which would also suck, albeit less). If anyone out there has any information or can correct my assumptions, please do so, feel free to call me an idiot, im always trying to learn. |

I would rather think that the phenomenon with the delayed propagation is not related to Internet Guide at all, unless this can be proved systematically, which you may attempt. If this reoccurs, simply test against several DNS services to see if some are much quicker, e.g. (for Windows):
On other OSes (Linux, Mac) do it with
And also, propagation of DNS changes can take up to 72 hours, depending on the TTL set by you and all this different caching over the world and also locally. Also, you cannot improve propagation by upgrading to Internet Guide Pro or Premium. Propagation and DNS lookup results are not the difference between the versions. All three flavors use the same DNS servers and deliver exactly the same results. Further, there is no option to refresh the resolver cache of the Internet Guide with the paid versions. I wasn't assuming upgrading to pro would speed up propagation, i was thinking it would allow me to reload the resolver cache in my instance of the proxy. Given the nature of propagation, its not something that can be "sped up". My whole issue was before i used internet guide subdomain changes were instant, and polling other dns servers the changes WERE instant, only the internet guide's dns servers were unable to resolve.

Oops, I see, in this case you may want to contact support. http://www.dyndns.com/support/contact/email.html - This is primarily a user community forum, and users evidently cannot help with such an issue.

And no, there is no option to refresh the resolver cache of the Internet Guide. You may know this from OpenDNS, isn't it?
