General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I installed the web UI for uTorrent and set it up. I wasn't going to use my IP address to connect remotely since it changes, so I opted to get a DynDNS account. I signed up but don't know what to do from here. When I type in the URL of my DynDNS, it just shows me the login for the administration of my router. I tried adding the port number and /gui to the end of the URL, as the instructions said, and it just said it couldn't connect. I assume somewhere there is a way to specify which port the DynDNS URL should be trying to connect through. How do I do this?

I tried connecting through another computer on the network and it didn't work. I don't have access to any computers outside the network. When I type localhost:port#/gui it works just fine. Using the DynDNS domain is what is the problem.

1 Answer:

There can be many reasons why it's not working. If you use a non-standard port (for HTTP different from 80), you must specify it when connecting, e.g.

http://yourname.example.org:8080/

Also, you must forward this port on the router to your computer running the UI. And - it must work first within your LAN with the local IP address of that UI computer before you can even think about to test it from outside with your IP address or your DynDNS hostname.

Further, it may be possible that you can't use your DynDNS hostname from inside your LAN, because many routers do not support loopback connections.

Work also through this guide for checking and troubleshooting.
