Hello, I have a DynDNS free dynamic DNS account, added a domain (foobar.dyndns.org) with constantly updated IP. I have been able to access the Linux server I setup through it via SSH and a test HTTP website. However, when I setup other server functions such as, but not limited to, mail servers, I get asked what my hostname and domain name are. In my case, should the hostname be "foobar" and the domain name be "dyndns.org"? Or is it some other combination? Thanks for your explanations. |

It will depend on what you're setting up and what it expects. If in doubt use
That depends, as I said, on what this is. If you're referring to the computers own hostname and domain name then they need have nothing in common with your DynDNS hostname. For instance, my network is called "havok.lan" and my main computer is called "lance". My DynDNS hostname has none of those in it. @Cry Havok OK. I tried "foobar.dyndns.org" for both hostname and domain name. But now it seems the server thinks my server is at "foobar.dyndns.org.foobar.dyndns.org". In this case, would it be fine to use hostname "foo", domain name "dyndns.org"? Thanks.
