I have an old cname, several years old, and a new cname, over 48 hours old, and both are "not found" when using various online dns tools. I have redone the new one several times now after letting at least 72 hours pass each time. Any ideas?

Without any further information, no.

Is it only the CNAMEs that can't be found? Is it the CNAME or the item it resolves to (that is, if you use a command line tool, does it resolve the CNAME)?

If you post both CNAMEs then others can look and tell you what they see.

I am sorry that I cannot add a comment. When I click "add comment" nothing happens.

Anyway...

Thanks for the reply. For one, the cname "www" for http://www.computernetworkservice.com does not show up in any of the online DNS tools but seems to be working. The other record in question has these settings:
•DNS record type: CNAME
•Host: 742255011
•Value: http://domains.live.com
also is not being propagated or at least Microsoft's automated system says it can see the cname for me to prove domain ownership to qualify for their http://domain.live.com services.
Using nslookup and set type=all shows everything in my DNS except CNAMEs and SRVs. Maybe this in normal that these records are hidden. The TXT record that I added recently even shows up in nslookup.

So, www.computernetworkservice.com is a CNAME for computernetworkservice.com, which resolves to 216.57.205.210. I've just tried and connected to the server on that IP, by using www.computernetworkservice.com.

When doing an nslookup you'll only get records for the name(s) you enter. So if you do an nslookup for www.computernetworkservice.com you'll only get records for www.computernetworkservice.com not, say, a CNAME for mail.computernetworkservice.com.

So, based on what you've posted, I can't see any problems. If you're still having problems you'll have to be precise about what they are if you want any help.

For me it resolves perfectly:

    QUESTIONS:
        www.computernetworkservice.com, type = CNAME, class = IN
    ANSWERS:
    ->  www.computernetworkservice.com
        canonical name = computernetworkservice.com
        ttl = 14400 (4 hours)

------------

http://www.computernetworkservice.com
        canonical name = computernetworkservice.com

Or another variation:

    QUESTIONS:
        www.computernetworkservice.com, type = A, class = IN
    ANSWERS:
    ->  www.computernetworkservice.com
        canonical name = computernetworkservice.com
        ttl = 14159 (3 hours 55 mins 59 secs)
    ->  computernetworkservice.com
        internet address = 216.57.205.210
        ttl = 14400 (4 hours)

------------
Nicht autorisierte Antwort:
Name:    http://computernetworkservice.com
Address:  216.57.205.210
Aliases:  http://www.computernetworkservice.com

It can't be any better...
