Running Windows7 Profesional or higher on various PC's in a LAN behind Netgear DG834G Router/modem In NETWORK When I LT click on another PC's icon I get its Shared folders. When I RT click on the other PC icon & select Remote Desktop Connection I get correct remote control. But, when ,in IE I type The IP address I get no connection, although it says the PC is detected. Details Say "The device---(192.168.0.6) is not set up to accept connection on port "The World Wide WEB Service HTTP" What to do please. Then I can port forward & test WAN via DysDYN. Thanks. Mizar I think ist answer is no. But I have a program on that Pc which has a web server for the program. And when the program is activated on that PC I get access to that web server via IP address of Pc. 2nd answer is YES (and HTTPS has been tried)Note, Widows firewall is off. Norton firewall ,which I usually use, is off on both pc's. The router has a firewall but I believe that only protects from Wan.Any way, I have allowed Port 80 on :but no change No. If it is running then IP address works, but only to that web server. I want to get to Desk top so I can run anything on the PC Sorry, as you will have realised I am a bit Naive. Are you saying that the PC to be accessed must have either a Web browser or I must use Remote access?. If so, how do I Remote access using the IP address? I only know how to remote access by RT clicking an Icon for another PC on the same Lan. The DysDYN notes I have read said that if I can't get to a PC on the LAN using its IP address there is no point in WAN testing. Sorry to be so stupid! It works! So simple when you know. On to WAN. Thanks v.much for your help. |

So, you want to use Remote Desktop using a Remote Desktop client then, not access to a web server using a web browser, you need to
You'll want to ensure you're reviewed the other Remote Desktop questions and this guide. It's much easier if you add your further information to the question, than in comments - I'll move your relevant comments into your question in a moment. The starting point is to, from another PC, launch a Remote Desktop client ( Once that works, follow the advice above about forwarding 3389/TCP - use the guide to help if required. Then test from another computer on somebody else's home network (not a company network) using your DynDNS hostname. Now it works, don't forget to apply the tick - that tells others that this worked for you and closes the question off. Thanks. For the sake of clarity: You can't use a browser for Remote Desktop connections, you must use mstsc.exe (under Windows).
