Hi, my name is Kaitlyn. I am trying to set up my CCTV system to be viewed over the Internet on my phone and also on another computer. My system is Eyonet5400. I looked at the user manual and it says that all you have to do is enter your DVR server IP address into the address bar and it will automatically show up with a page that asks you to login and then you can view the video. But the only problem is my router has a Dynamic IP address and I thought this sight would create a static IP for you and redirect you to the correct IP but I can't figure out how to make it work. I filled out the thing for the free thing (sorry for my vagueness but I don't know hardly any terminology at all) and then I tried it but it still didn't work so I don't know what else I can do or if I did the completely wrong thing!

This is an update: In step 2 it says :Configure the device you want to forward traffic to with either a static IP address, or a static DHCP lease. This ensures that the time spent configuring the router (in a moment) isn't wasted if/when the IP on your device changes. I need to know what information I need to do that and where to enter it in and how to get that info. (I am totally clueless) :(

If you are going for a static DHCP lease, that depends on your router (which I assume is handling that). We would need to know the make and model, and ideally a link to the PDF manual.

If you are going for a static IP address in the DVR then you would just enter the same IP as it gets through DHCP, along with the same netmask (usually 255.255.255.0), default gateway (the router's LAN IP) and DNS server (usually the router's LAN IP). A link to the PDF manual would help us help you with doing that.

Also, how do I test the device form LAN?

As you've already said - by entering the LAN IP of the DVR in your web browser.

The manual was talking about an internal static IP address for the CCTV device. Nothing to do with your router's public WAN IP address.

And no, DynDNS can't provide you with a static WAN IP address, only your ISP could. However this is not needed. DynDNS provides you with a static hostname pointing to your dynamic WAN IP address. This is all you need.

Work through this guide to get you going. If you face difficulties, come back to edit your message with the details, especially the ones listed at the end of the guide.

Configure the device you want to forward traffic to with either a static IP address, or a static DHCP lease.
I need to know what information I need to do that and where to enter it in and how to get that info.

You need to enter the information in the CCTV. For details see your CCTV's manual.

First you login to your router to find out the DHCP address range, the internal IP address of the router, and the subnet mask. For details see your router's manual.

Then you can configure the CCTV:
IP address: must be outside the router's DHCP range (let's assume 192.168.0.15)
Subnet mask: same as on the router (often 255.255.255.0)
Gateway: the internal IP address of the router (e.g. 192.168.0.1)
DNS server: again the internal IP address of the router (e.g. 192.168.0.1)
The addresses mentioned here are only examples. In your case they may be different! So do not simply use these examples!

Also, how do I test the device from LAN?

Because you assigned a static IP address to the CCTV, you use this to access it from another computer in your LAN. You enter a URL with this address into the browser's address line, e.g.:
http://192.168.0.15/
If your CCTV listens to a non-standard port (i.e. not port 80, but e.g. port 80808), you need to specify the port as well, e.g.:
http://192.168.0.15:8080/

Edit:

I have purchased the service of a static IP from my Internet provider and I am going to find out what it is sometime later today. What do I need to do/undo to make it work?

Nothing, because irrelevant here. As I already said, for the DynDNS services it is of no relevance if you have a static or a dynamic public IP address.

Do you want a link to the manual for my updater (DynDNS Updater for Windows) or for my DVR system (Eyeonet 5400)?

I've looked at the manual for my CCTV and the only information (that I can find) is that if you want to view the video over the internet all you have to do is enter the IP of your DVR server and a log-in screen will come up asking you to install something and then if you install that you will be able to view your video from anywhere (with internet). It also says to see Appendix 2 for more information but there is no Appendix 2 anywhere that I can find.

Could my Windows Firewall have something to do with it not working even though its off? Also, I found out lots of information and I would like to know if I should keep it private because I think it might help you help me:

Address type

IP address

Subnet mask

Default Gateway

DHCP Server

DNS Servers

WNS server

Physical Address (not like a normal address but its just like a bunch of #s and dashes and letters)

I have purchased the service of a static IP from my Internet provider and I am going to find out what it is sometime later today. What do I need to do/undo to make it work?
