General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Every once in awhile things get out of whack and the IP address for my hostname with DynDNS and the domain I have registered will be different. I'll be able to browse to my hostname but not the domain name. When I ping the two addresses my hostname will resolve to my current IP from my ISP. My domain will be something different (the previous IP address, maybe?)

The only solution I've found is to log into http://dyndns.com and navigate through My Services > Zone Level Services > Dyn Standard DNS Service > . Once there I'll see that the IP address shown is different than that displayed in the "Your current location's IP address is…" link. I click the link to update the IP address and then save changes. After a minute or so the my domain will begin working again.

What do I have to set up differently so that I don't have to manually sync these IP addresses?

Did you remember to install and configure an update client for your domain? It sounds like you have a working one for your Dynamic DNS hostname, but not one for the domain name.

You'll need to use an update client known to work with DynDNS, and you'll have to configure them to update both, your DynDNS hostname and your domain name. If you have more than one A record for your domain (e.g. subdomains with A records), then each of these names needs to be updated.

Thank you both. In my ignorance I did not realize I needed updaters configured for both the hostname and the domain name. I thought that the domain names were supposed to fall under the umbrella of the host and when the host updated the associated domains would also update. Additionally, the NAS from which I'm hosting my website only has one field for configuring DDNS updates. My new router, which I'm still figuring out, lets me enter multiple DDNS profile entries and it looks like it's updated both successfully now that I've set up that updater.
