Help! I have been trying for a number of days to connect to my new security system over the internet to view its cameras. I can use my DynDNS hostname (macedvr.dyndns.org) from Explorer (ver: 8.0.7600.16385) on computers on my Lan successfully, but all attempts to connect over the internet have failed. I have done a series of remote tests using friends computers at different locations (including in different states) and all attempts have failed (typically saying “internet explorer cannot display the web page”). Despite forwarding ports in my Wireless Router (ports 80, 100, 9000) to the static IP of my DVR (192.168.1.234) the ports still report closed by DYN’s (and other’s) Open Port tools. I have read “Cry Havoks” guide and tried my best to follow and reconfirm all of the steps, but I still can´t connect. Any help would be deeply appreciated. The parameters requested from Cry Havok’s guide are the following. DynDNS hostname: http://macedvr.dyndns.org Ports forwarded 80, 100, 9000 all forwarded to 192.168.1.234 (the static ip of my Mace DVR) and the router and modem were rebooted. The router is a Linksys e1200 (The firewall on the router has been turned off) The modem is a D-Link “DSL 500B ADSL 2+ Router” (it has been bridged) LAN IP address (which is outside the range of my DHCP) of the Mace 4 camera security system DVR (MDIY-DVR04-05HD): IP: 192.168.1.234 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 DNS: 192.168.2.1 GATEWAY: 192.168.2.1 The current WAN IP address of the ISP connected device as shown on my router’s setup pages is 187.4.216.241 (the router’s DDNS setup page has reported the successful updating of the IP a number of times). The DVR hardware device that I’m trying to forward to is a Mace 4 camera security system DVR (MDIY-DVR04-05HD). I am NOT forwarding to a computer. |

Your problem is simple - you have the wrong DNS and Gateway address for your DVR. That should be the LAN IP of the router, which I'm guessing is Try changing those and restarting the DVR.
You should do that.
You should ensure that you keep the DVR fully up to date and ensure that, if supported, it requires a username and password. |

Thank you, Cry Havok! That worked. I was wondering if those entries should have been the same as the router, but the Mace tech guy put them in, and I didn't know enough about it to start messing around with them. After following your suggestion, port 80 was still closed, but I changed the forwarding to 90 (and configured my DVR for port 90 as well)and it worked. Just so that I know what I've gotten myself into, how much more vulnerable am I to attack now that those 3 ports are open? Is port 90 as good a choice as any? Is there any reason to turn the firewall, and the "filter anonymous internet requests" in my router back on and see if I still can connect, or will those for sure block me out? Is there anything else I should do to help my security now that those 3 ports are open? Thank you again for your fast and accurate help resolving my problem. |
