General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I am one of these freeloaders who used dyndns for free, occasionally considering to upgrade to a paid account, but always postponing this.

Now I had to find out that my dyndns account was gone, because I was on an assignment and the router at home was down for several month. But not only was the account gone, but also "my" domain. Even worse, I can't recreate it. The free option is totally gone and replaced by a bait and lock-in offer. You all know that already.

Considering my options I will of course do what Dyn wants me to do - I will leave. I understand Dyn's strategy to gradually get rid of us freeloaders and Dyn's desire to make more money. I don't, however, see why Dyn couldn't do it with grace and in style. Should I ever want to pay for dynamic DNS it will not be dyndns. Dyn's behavior is rude and lacks style. I don't think I want to do business with such a company.

I have a paid account for myself and a free one that gets used occasionally at work. My boss evidently missed one of the renewal emails so when I tried to connect tonight I found the account canceled. I went to try and renew the free account only to be told I have to supply credit card info. Not gonna use my info and boss won't give his for a free account he doesn't even use. I used to sing the praises of Dyn but I may now have to consider moving my paid account to someone else just on principle. I feel your pain and love the title of your post. I wonder if no-ip is still around?

Same here. Can't renew my free http://dnsalias.com account (killed two days ago), so I'll go and buy one elsewhere.

No-IP is still around, I use it for a website I host... maybe I'll see what paid deals they offer.
