I have never used Dyn for a domain name before, I do use the ddns service to track my customers' security DVRs, and I'm very pleased with the performance. I am running a tech info bbs from home and using Dyn updater to track the ip. I found a name that I like and is available. If I register the name through Dyn, will I be able to use the windows update client to track this server's ip? What is the minimum that I need to make this work? Thanks in advance. |

You'll need to work through this guide. Come back to enhance your question with any specific details as needed. Not sure what you mean by "track the server's IP", but I would think this is possible. Edit: Beside domain registration (here or somewhere else) you'll need DNS hosting for this domain like Dyn Standard DNS. And yes, if you purchased Dyn Standard DNS under the same account, you can update all hostnames of your domain/zone as well, just like the dynamic DNS hostnames, with the same Dyn update client. |

I think I was misunderstood. I currently have this server running with the ddns update client on it. It points to "wildlands.blogdns.net" (a terrible url for my visitors to remember), I want to register a "real" name (easier for my visitors) "blahblah.info". If I do, Can I use the updater from Dyn to point to this server? Currently, when I configure the updater, it asks which name I want to use. If I register a name through Dyn, will it be one of the selections on the updater list? Can I just register the name ($15) or do I need the dns service too? TIA |
