I just want to clarify whether this is a bug or not. I installed the OS X DNS updater yesterday into Lion 10.7 but I find I have to add it to my startup items to get it launch on boot up. This then needs to be kept running, in the dock, for the updates to occur. Surely this should have been implemented in a more standard way - namely that there should be an update agent I can access from my System Preferences where I can turn it on or off and adjust its settings, but which would mean it runs in the background on startup? My second point is that it would be good to be able reduce the 10 minute wait between IP checks/updates, perhaps to 60s. Is there a way? If I am in a remote location and need to reboot my router then my ISP always gives me a new IP address. It is then up to 10 minutes before I can access the router again... Perhaps I would be better off using a third party updater? Anyone have experience of a good one that works on Lion and is supported? The fact that the official one hasn't been updated for over a year doesn't fill me with a great deal of hope that feature suggestions are going to be taken onboard. I did try getting the router to do the update (it's a Netgear DG834v2) but found that while it reported the IP correctly the first time it never reported the IP changes from subsequent reboots of the router so I scrapped that idea and went with the client approach. |
