I have been running my IP camera the last 3 to 4 weeks without any problem but suddenly all changed since yesterday. My ISP disconnect me every 12 hours or so. Was using a free accounts then my hostname was blocked due to abuse yesterday. After unblocking it the ip update doesn't seem to work since. I have one experience with hostname block before about two weeks ago but after unblocking it that time everything still seems to be working fine IP still updated automatically but since the second hostname block yesterday this no longer works. FYI I am using the Thomson TG585 v7 modem/router combo. Where is the 'update client' that I can look up in my laptop or router I can't seem to find it. I am a complete IT dummy have spent hours just to get the dyndys set up. Any comment or help will be greatly appreciated. |

Not all firmwares for your router seem to work with DynDNS regarding the DDNS update client function. So either flash it with a firmware known to work, or use a different Update Client, e.g. see if your camera has one built-in. Or use one of the software update clients known to work. Whatever you do, always use just one update client against a hostname at any time, else you will be blocking your hostname again, guaranteed.
Does this mean you didn't run an update client at all? You must have run one, else your hostname would not have been blocked. So you should know where this is. If not visit section 5.3. of your manual. Edit:
If you don't know, how would we users ever know? |
Correct - as an analogy, how would your video recorder record a program if you had turned it off at the wall?
Yes.
Yes, just use one of the other clients RotBlitz has already directed you to. There are many routers known to work correctly (including yours, with the right firmware version). |

I really don't know where is my current update client. Is it built in the camera or the router or my laptop??? Are you able to advise where to look for them? Anyway I have install the Dyn Updater for Window and it has a green tick and everything seems to be working fine now. Let's see things will start to go out of control again few days down the track! Like you said since I have no idea where my original client updater is a few might be running at the same time which can cause blocking again. But I have now subscribed to Dyndns Pro will that still be a problem? It should be able to stand 'abuse' and more 'forgivable'? Thanks for the help in advance. Regards. |

'In this case it is best to change the password for your account on the website' Make sense but change the password on which website RotBlitz? Thanks. Dyn's site - for your DynDNS account. This forum is, after all, for help with Dyn's services...

OMG... I just realising that by using the Dyndns update client software for Window I need to leave my laptop running and can't shut it off??? Otherwise it won't update if the IP changes? I am leaving for holiday for 2 weeks I need to monitor the house via my IP cameras but I need to leave the laptop running during that period? Is there any other way around this because I don't think I can leave it running for that long... help!!! |
