General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I setup a Dlink DIR330 VPN router to login to a Lutron Radio RA2 control system. There is no running computer to remain on the site. I used a laptop for programming. I setup the router and got it to work. I went into the router and selected http://DynDns.org (free), host name and password and it seemed to work. The router is connected to a Cablevision cable modem in NJ. I could not get information from the ISP on the settings just that the modem assigns them automatically and it uses a dynamic IP address. The IP worked for a while and now it stopped so I think it changed and the router didn't update the host on the site. I am new to setting up a Dymnamic Dns to be updated from a router so please bear with me. What am I missing in the router settings. I read through the FAQ and it seems that the DNS updater is only used when the client is a computer, without one there I am not sure what to check. I have two hosts on my DynDNS account and found that I had both of them checked which caused my office computer running DNSupdater to update both host names with the IP from my office. Can I force the router to update the site with the IP address and get back the one from the remote router. When does the router send updates to the site? Also I just upgraded my account to a pro account will the http://DynDNS.org (Free) still work? Thanks for any feedback. Frank

The router will update whenever D-Link programmed it to. Experience suggests that a restart of the router will usually cause an update, as it will if the WAN IP changes (and possibly every 25 to 30 days).

As for the free service, now you've upgrade to Pro your old hostnames are now part of your Pro service.

Will the setting in the router for DynDNS.org (Free) still work or do I have to change them to a different selection, IE: DynDNS.org (Static), (Custom), etc.

There is only one Update API, so I would not really know what the difference could be. You had to ask D-Link for an explanation. So, I would suggest to start with the Free option to see if this does its job already. Static is rather for static IP addresses. Custom however should be doing the same as Free.
