Why does DynUpSvc.exe use 146.62 MB of memory? It’s the 4th largest user of memory on my Win 7 computer, just below a CAD program and 3 times more than Word or Excel. Seems to be excessive for what should be a relatively small program. I can attach a screen shot of Resource Manager if necessary.

Memory-Usage slowly rises on my machine too. Version: 4.1.10 on win7-64 After maybe a week it has taken ~500 MB. working-set stays small.

The Updater does not need significant amounts of memory. It sounds like there is a small leak somewhere that over time builds up. It hadn't been noticed or reported before so I can't speak as to what it is, but I can say that the easiest way to fix it is to restart the service. You could go into the Updater configuration app and stop and then start the updater service (easiest for most people), or if you know your way around the services panel you could do a restart on the service, or of course, a reboot will also accomplish the same thing.

In the meantime I will see if I can identify the source and get a fix out. It's also possible that it's specific to your configuration or usage patterns, which may be why it hadn't been noticed in general. I will take a look, but in the meantime, an occasional restart of the service should free any used resources.

However, I also want to point out one thing - it depends what you're looking at when you're measuring this, but sometimes memory shows as taken because the program used it and doesn't need it anymore but Windows hasn't reclaimed it yet. In that case, it may show allocated, even though everything is working fine. In the situation of a resource shortage, the memory would get reclaimed and made available. Without seeing your specific case, it's hard to know if that's what's going on. Regardless, you can always restart the service as I noted.
