I noticed an error in my update client that started a few days ago indicating trouble with my login info or hostname. So I signed in manually to check it out, and my hostname that I've had for years is gone. It tells me I have no hostnames registered. Since I've had this hostname for so long I can't simply reregister it, because I picked the name back in the day when Dyn was a decent company and actually offered some decent name choices. I want my hostname back! |

fftir and zaphod, please email me with your username and logs (if you have them) so I can look into this. Mike Community Manager, Dyn Where would I send this information to? Have you provided an email address somewhere that I am missing? I'm not seeing any mechanism to contact you (or anyone else) either through this forum or at http://dyn.com. This is why I resorted to posting on a community forum to begin with.

I'm not seeing that anywhere in his profile. I'll try the address you've provided.

It probably expired because you didn't update it in over 30 days. Unfortunately there isn't anything we (the other users) can do to help you - and all you can do is to purchase the Dynamic DNS Pro service if you want that domain again. Nope - didn't let it expire at all. I've had this hostname since Christ was a cowboy and have maintained it properly the whole time (I literally mean about a decade). It just went away on it's own. Pretty much just as fftir describes as well. I wonder how many people this has happened to - I noticed a couple threads that seem similar that I intend to check out.

I had the same thing just this morning. I had 3 hostnames that were updating every day for long years... This morning, without any advice, all gone. I connected to the website and can add only two of them.... What can i do for the 3rd one ? Please, ask your own question.

The trouble is - this isn't a traditional forum, but one in the model of Stack Exchange - it IS NOT suited for discussions and "me too" posts. I agree that there seems to be a number of people suffering the same problem, be we cannot discuss them on this forum - discussions are better held on the other forum.

We still maintain the old forums for non-english language speaking users that we have language-specific speaking moderators for who can assist them. As a result, the old forums are still "active" so those can be active since they are connected. I'm open to your thoughts as to what would be the best system/forum/etc to use here. The current one is in place because we had found that most users in the past had come to ask questions and get answers, and this suited that. Mike Community Manager, Dyn.

Good point. I suppose the frequency of "back-and-forth" style troubleshooting shouldn't be all that high when your systems are all running fine. I'm more used to dealing with the "running thread" style of forum that may not prove to be as useful here. Still, it's not like this style cannot be used in such a way - this post is turning into a good case study of just that - it's just different. You definitely shouldn't discourage others from contributing relevant info even in this version of the forum, though. It usually helps in some way.
