General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Dyndns client is working fine to push out the address of my BT hub and I can connect when off site to see cctv. However when the PC that runs the client is used to make a VPN connection to another site the address is changed and of course offsite access to the cctv fails. Presumably I could set up a static route(s) to over come this but would appreciate some guidance on how to do this and what addresses to use. I found a similar thread in the forum pointing to a link about how to do this but the link appears to be broken.

1 Answer:

The simple option is to not use a software client, but a hardware one (your router or CCTV device may have one built in that works).

If you want to stay with a software client then you need to ensure you configure your (unspecified) operating system with a static route to all the IP addresses that checkip.dyndns.org resolves to. You'll need to keep an eye on what that hostname resolves to.

Note that some VPN clients will not allow you to over-ride their routes.
