I have had a dyndns name for nearly 6 months and this morning it has gone and is now apparently registered to a all new company... WTF! What is going on! Any help is appreciated. |

Did you have the free dyndns service? I have had the free service for home for several years and paid accounts for work and a school I help with. This morning, I was scanning through my junk email and noticed one from DynDNS that I received 8 days ago. It told me that one of my domain names was about to expire and I had 5 days to reactivate it. The email didn't tell me which domain name was in trouble, but I figured out it was the free one I use for home. I was no longer able to view my home security cameras from the office. I could find no way to renew the free domain name as "homeip.net" was no longer available in the FREE list. I opted to go with the $20/year Pro version which did allow me to keep my old hostname. It sure would have been nice to have more than a 5 day warning! When did the having to renew every 30 days go into effect? I use this almost every weekday, so the inactivity they refer to must be my home router not calling in to update the IP for 30 days as the IP had not changed. Very frustrating having to jump through hoops and start paying with only a 5 day notice. Hope if this is what happened to you, there is a way to get back your old hostname. The 30 day renewal if there is no update activity has been in place for at least the last few years.
