I've changed all my NS names to the ones specified in the instructions:

ns1.mydyndns.org <- This one wasn't in the list of instructions, but I included it anyway cause it wanted ns1. Was I suppost to do that?

ns2.mydyndns.org
ns3.mydyndns.org
ns4.mydyndns.org
ns5.mydyndns.org

Now I went into cpanal, made sure my domain was pointing to the 4 ips that were given to me and deleted the one that my hosting gave to me. Now I have 5 NS names and 4 IP addresses. However, when connecting to my domain it gives me an "Opps" page were it says I can't connect. When I try and ping all 4 ips it says "Request Timeout". I also tryed to ping my website using other websites, but comes up as unknown host. To further test I tryed going to my site using my VPS, home computer, and my VPN located in Russia. All 3 reported the same issue. I even asked friends to check if the site was up and they reported it loaded slow and gave them the same error. Now my questions are:

Why can't I ping the IPs given to me by DYN?
Why is ns1 not included in the list?
Why is there 4 IPs instead of 5?
Can I even do this on shared hosting or do I need dedicated/vps?

1 Answer:

All I wish to do is make it so if my website goes down due to DDOS it can use a different DNS or IP address to access that IP address.

Standard DNS will enable you switch IP address for your hostname quickly, assuming you have had your hosting provider allocate you another IP, or you've switched hosting provider.

However, by itself none of Dyn's products give you DDoS protection. If you are the target of the DDoS being able to switch hosting provider (which is effectively what Standard DNS will give you in this case) won't help.

If however others are the target, then yes - this will work (again, once you've arranged new hosting for your site).

If the individual DDOES 94.43.56.34 (which points to 97.53.56.32) my website would go to a different IP 48.64.24.76 (which points to 97.53.56.32).

You can't point an IP to another IP with any of Dyn's services - doing that requires a service running on the intermediate IP address.

You kinda see what I'm trying to do?

Yes, and I don't think you're going about it in a way that will work. Instead you should go to the likes of the Web Hosting Talk forums and ask there about protecting yourself from a DDoS. There you'll find lots of practical advice, that will work, about protecting yourself. My experience is that you'll need to purchase a DDoS protection service.

To do the first step I went into my hosting, managed my domain, and changed the name servers to http://ns1.mydyndns.org http://ns2.mydyndns.org http://ns3.mydyndns.org http://ns4.mydyndns.org http://ns5.mydyndns.org instead of my hosting.

The second step I went into cpanel, Advanced DNS Zone Editor, changed the "Record" to the assigned IPs dyn gave me. Meaning I put my domain as the "name", "TTL" is the same, "Type" is "A", and the "Record" is the IP DYN gave me. Example:

Name: http://mywebsite.com. TTL: 16700 Type: A Record: 85.35.75.34

I repeated that 4 types.

I'm on a shared hosting plan. I was given 4 IPs by DYN: "1. Configure your Primary nameserver to allow our nameservers to transfer your zone file. Our IPs are:"

Okay so if I get standard DNS I would be able to do this correctly? How would I be able to do this? What I want is to have it so if my website gets hit off it can switch to a different IP address. Kind like a mask or a proxy, how ever you want to think of it. Would buying Standard DNS help me in reaching my goal? I'm on a shard hosting plan. Thank you!

To answer your questions I purchased Secondary DNS (canceled it and got my money back due to it not working the way I intended it to work), have shared hosting, have access to cpanel, and can change my NS.
