General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hello,

I am using the internal DYNDNS update client of my router (Neufbox, ISP: http://Sfr.fr) to keep my IP cam TRENDNET TV-IP410W in my 2nd residence accessible via web from remote (my host is http://xxx.dyndns.org / free account, user: mindscape). Mostly, all works fine since 3 years but once in a while, dyndns 'looses' it (powercuts, Neufbox remote upgrades and the like). I have figured that rebooting the IP cam helps and have therefore hooked it up to a timer with 2 on/off events per day.

This also worked fine for a year or so. Recently, following a remote reboot of my Neufbox by SFR customer services (upon my request - due to a problem with the phone line which I need to control the heating), it seems to have gone permanently:

According to the IP update log displayed for my host, the last update occurred Sat Feb 4 just after noon, so there might have been another IP address change, but also at least 6 IP cam reboots since - but no remote access (timeout - Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems). Obviously the SFR guys insist on the root cause being my setup and not their manipulation(s).

My questions:

  1. Is this correct and if so, what can I do to regain access (without going there) ?

  2. Is there another DYNDNS package I could subscribe to prevent this (and perhaps even get rid of the timer) ?

P.S. needless to say that I'd appreciate a solution, since my IP cam 'has an eye' on the inside temperature, which - though the heating is on - quite conforting to see - and it is -20C over there these days... ;-o

Many thanks !

If your WAN IP has changed, and your router's update client isn't working, there isn't a lot you can do remotely. Changing package won't help since the problem is with the router's update client and is nothing to do with Dyn.

Instead of your router you may want to try the update client built into your camera if it has one, or a different router. This sticky may also help you work through and ensure that the only problem is the update client in your router.

Thanks for the detailed information - Reply OK and accepted !

For the benefit of other forum visitors with the same problem, below explanation and solution.

I called SFR customer service again and got a somewhat more knowledgable person who told me that:

The reset performed by ISP (SFR) led to initial (factory) settings of the Neufbox (router) i.e. all my configurations, incl. port forward and dydns credentials in the router were LOST. This is why my IP cam access does no longer work. I could immediately confirm this since he also gave me the actual IP address (which had changed again) - and yet still no cam access. In summary:

Good news: root cause known ;-)

Bad news: need to go there to solve the problem (re-configure the box) ;-(

thanks again and best regards.
