is there a way to update the modem IP address when it changes without having the PC on and the software that updates dyndns updater? I wish it would update the url ip whenever my ISP changes IP without having the PC turned on and with it DynDNS updater |

Hello 8749michelep, Depends… if you use a software update client on a computer on your network, it will need to be on 24/7 in order to detect when the WAN IP is changed by your ISP, so it can then login to your account a Dyn and update the IP associated with your chosen hostname. If, as you indicate, you don’t want to leave a computer on 24/7, then you will have to have another device on that network that has an embedded update client which is on 24/7, so that it can perform the updates as describe above. Some devices which may have an embedded update client are, DVRs, webcams, NAS units, Routers, and router/modem combination. Bottom line, you need SOMETHING on the network to be running an update client to detect the IP change whenever it happens. regards… |

There is - just chose a modem or router from this list of known working devices. As Scarabaeus said though, you have to run something to notify Dyn of the IP changes. |
