General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I've been trying to get DnyDNS to work since last week and have been unsuccessful. I've just discovered the reason - my ISP (Cox) blocks port 80 and port 25. Is there anyway around this? I would really appreciate any help.

Thanks.

Yes.

For web services there is WebHop and for mail services, assuming you're using your own domain, there is MailHop Relay.

You may also want to read the wiki on port forwarding and testing.

Thank, I just upgraded to a DynDNS Pro account and signed up for WebHop - the problem now is that I need step-by-step help getting this thing setup. I have my own domain that I'd like to use but need someone to hold my hand through this process. Thanks.

Well, if you follow those links you'll find lots of good documentation. The service description pages document how to use them and the wiki article I linked to covers general port forwarding.

Note that you must be using Custom DNS with your own domain to use MailHop Relay. You cannot use it with the Dynamic DNS Free or Dynamic DNS Pro services.

Thanks again for the info - I'm franitically trying to get something up and running ASAP. In the past, I've used M$ Mesh to access from home computer but Mesh has been up and down for the past few weeks (it's down again today) and if I don't get something going tonight, I'm in trouble. I assuming that I don't need Custom DNS for WebHop, just MailHop - is that correct? If so, that's not important to me at this time. I'm trying to run a remote desktop and run a domain (which I already own).

Yes, you only need Custom DNS if you want to use one of the MailHop services (other than MailHop Outbound). Using WebHop with the free Dynamic DNS for access to your own domain's web server is a more complicated setup, and more likely to result in your reaching the query limits, but it can be done.

For Remote Desktop see either this question if you're using Windows XP for the desktop or this question if you're using Vista or Windows 7 for the desktop.
