Typed in this problem before but the reply I got just says 'to look at similar problems that other user have' Having looked at loads I'm stil not able to get it to work.

Noticed when I check to see if the ports are open (open port test tool) it shows 80 as open but when I type in 8841 (assigned to dvr) I always get a 'timed out' error. Temp disabled firewall on my pc to see if this made any difference but it didn't. Temp enabled dmz but didn't work. Does this means that if port 8841 isn't opened them I'm not going to get it to work? What I'd like to know is a: how do I get it to show 'open' - b: How do I open this port in the first place.

Thankyou Looked at those guides several times but my problem is that I only knew what port forward meant just last week so many of the terms are not that easy to understand. I've tried to manually port forward 8841 on my router (netgear dg834g v5 under firewall and add services - + enables dmz option - Ip I think is fixed because I've added the ip that the dvr uses to 'address reservation') Even purchased & installed pfconfig (this just asks for the port(s) to be forwarded / tcp / ucp / name of application)

My dvr is on 192.168.0.4 (doesn't change) I'm using dyndns and there client updater

If I type this into the address bar or my external ip address I just get the dvr viewer (no cameras) Using the dvr software on my laptop is the only way I can see what the cameras are looking at. On the dvr hardware setup page it says it's on 192.168.0.4

Am I using ports 80 & 8841 in the wrong order?
Port 8841 is the port that's shown in the setup manual of the dvr and is displayed in the setup page when I go into the menu page. As I've mentioned all this is very new to me I've looked at as many other users with similar problems but not seen someone with the same router and problem so I'm finding it a bit difficult working out if I've entered the correct details in the correct places. I haven't been that impressed with pfconfig because from what I've gathered if I hadn't tried to configure it manualy - then if I was just using there software it should work (considering there are only 3 sets of numbers I'm supposed to enter then it accesses my router and re-configures it? I've contacted them but stil waiting to hear from them

My external ip addres 83.104.XX.XX is assigned to dyndns. From what I've read i'm supposed to enter 83.104.xx.xx followed by :then 8841 to view the cams 83.104.xx.xx is what I type in from outside my network to try to view the cameras

I don't need to use it's software from out my network. I should just type in my IP Address ( 83.104.XX.XX then enter password from the page displayed)

DVR is DVR-404 code no: N63HH (Sentient cctv kit - 250GB network dvr with dvd-rw backup & 4 security cameras)

Router: Netgear DG834G v5
This doesn't have a page marked 'port forwarding' so I use:
Firewall rules

Inbound services I add 'dvr-view' under service name
Action: ALLOW always
Lan Server IP address: 192.168.0.4
Wan users: Any

Then under 'Services'

Service table I've entered: (line 1)
Service type: DVR-View (tcp/ucp
Port: 80
+
(line 2)
Service: DVR View (tcp)
port 8841

Under Lan IP setup:
I've entered:

IP address - 192.168.0.4
Device name - DVR-404
Mac addres: 00:xx.xx.xx.xx

Under Dynamic DNS

Service provider - http://www.dyndns.org
host name: - XXXXXX
user name - xxxx
wildcard not selected

What you've seen (assuming there was no video dispaly) is just what I can see - top line asking me to install active -x i'f you can't see the black box below'. I'm not sure what you meant right at the very end about active x and logging in? The other thing is that I'm unable to use the keypad shown on the right (dvr viewer page) -Can only enter the password from my laptop keypad - but when I press connect - nothing happens Not looked at the pages you've mentioned - will do after sending this

I've looked at these pages before - One uses a different router so it's not quite the same procedure when typing the data in

I don't know how to do screenshots?

entering 192.168.0.4 only brings up the dvr viewer page but it won't allow me to connect when entering password. Tested dns hostname outside my network and it doesn't work

DVR works from outside network

Thanks

Work through this guide on port forwarding and testing. If you have problems then update your question (don't post a comment - comment notification only goes to the poster of the item you comment on, and even then it doesn't always work) with the step you reached and the exact error.

I'm guessing that you haven't forwarded port 8841/TCP to the IP address of your DVR, or you did and because you haven't given the DVR a fixed IP address on your LAN it is now on a different IP address. Working through the guide will identify if either of those are the cause.

When you access the DVR on the LAN, do you specify 8841? When you say "assigned to the dvr" do you mean that you've explicitly configured the DVR to use that port, or just that you wanted to forward that port to the DVR?

I note that when I visit your IP address on port 80 I see a DVR viewer. I'm guessing this is your DVR? If so everything works, it is just that it isn't on the port you expected.

IP addresses 192.168.x.x are private IP addresses and cannot be reached over the internet. Your DynDNS hostname must be updated with your public IP address. At this stage this is nothing to do with ports or portforwarding.
