Hello everyone, and first of all, you guys that provide support, you guys rock! Thank you for all of your support.

I have a problem, of course. I have a cable modem SB5101, IP camera TV-IP600, and a linksys router WRT160N, and a windows XP PC.

I have successfully was able to remote view my ip-camera and so were my family members. Okay, I tore it down and reassemble it at my friends house. It is his equipment. However, he has a different ISP, of course he would have something different, nothing can be easy. Fine, I did setup the router and the ip-camera and was able to view the camera without problem. Now, I was ready to connect the modem to the router and thats when I discovered that he use a different ISP, which is a cable modem (model# SB5101).

Called tech support and they claim that none of the ports are blocked, no portfowarding, no services other than to provide internet service. Okay, then I enable the DDNS on my router, and the information is already entered. In red letters, it states that the DNS was updated successfully, I log into http://Dyndns.com and check the IP address and it matches what is on my router.

I wait 20 minutes, nothing yet; I waited 4 hours, nothing. I tried again this morning after checking the ip address in http://dyndns.com website and the ip address remains unchanged. By the way, the IP address is a public one. So the http://dyndns.com website after logging in, the ip address matches as to the DNS update on my router. I still cannot view the camera outside of the network.

What do I do now?

His IP address is 24.117.XXX.XXX. Like I said, I have disabled every firewall from every machine and router. I changed the IP address of the camera outside of the routers range. The router and the modem share the same IP address. When I type in the above IP address, it goes straight to the router. Also, when I type in the url address and not the numeration, also I get the router. I type in the url address not the numeration with the port attached to it, I get the camera right away but that is inside the network. I use a machine that is outside the network and the user name and password does not come up.

I have done searches on how people have done it using a cable modem but none of them actually let you know how it was done, just problems that they have. I have searched for a similar problem as mine and so far it has been unsuccessful. I have gone through the wiki entry several times. I think that I can quote it from heart now.

I need some guidance. Thanks for your help Cry Havok!

Quoting from the guide:

Some routers will not actually forward traffic on the same port as their administrative interface uses, even though they'll happily let you set that up. If this applies to your router it'll be easy to spot - instead of getting the device you expected to see you'll get your router's admin page (or a login prompt for the router).

At this point you have 3 choices:

  1. If supported, move the admin page to a different port
  2. Forward a different port (and optionally use WebHop so that people don't have to add the port to the URL)
  3. Try a firmware upgrade, or alternative firmware (DD-WRT, OpenWRT etc) where supported

Answering the above steps.

!. ??? don't know about moving the admin page to a different port.

  1. I have used different ports and still nothing.

  2. The firmware is the latest already installed.

I don't understand, I had the system working fine with my modem. When I switch over to the cable modem it will not work. The cable modem does not have none of the ports blocked according to the ISP tech support. All of the firewalls have been disabled and no antivirus, antispyware are running at the time. However, I check the ports and they are blocked. I call tech support and they claim that none of the ports are blocked and they don't block nothing. Well someone is lying to me. I have no firewalls running, and my ports are still blocked. I did a search of my similar problem but turned up with no results. Does anyone else had the same problem? What was your solution?

When you tried the different ports - did you remember to specify the port when connecting?

Does it work, on his LAN, using the different ports and the LAN IP of the camera?

Yes Sir! I can view the camera just fine within the LAN. Outside of the local lan, it will not work.

Today, I went over and updated the DDNS of the router once again for grins and giggles. I saved the routers configuration, and double checked everything again from forwarding to the specified open ports that are configurable right from the web interface of the IP camera. I also unplugged the router and the cable modem for a minute or two. This time, I let the cable modem fully initialize and then powered up the router. I read somewhere on here that sometimes conflict arises when powering up the router seconds after the cable modem is powered up. All of the lights lit up on the cable modem and then plugged in the router afterwards.

Compared IP address of the router against what is uploaded at http://DYNDNS.org. Also, updated the update client from the pc that is always on. I made a checklist and decided to be very thorough.

I came home disillusioned. I checked it from my home. It WORKED!!!!

My System is working now! Don't know what did the trick but it is working now.
