(linux) DNS connect to my router interface/setup not the DMZ client

Some routers will not actually forward traffic on the same port as their administrative interface uses, even though they'll happily let you set that up. If this applies to your router it'll be easy to spot - instead of getting the device you expected to see you'll get your router's admin page (or a login prompt for the router).

At this point you have 3 choices:

1. If supported, move the admin page to a different port
2. Forward a different port (and optionally use WebHop so that people don't have to add the port to the URL)
3. Try a firmware upgrade, or alternative firmware (DD-WRT, OpenWRT etc) where supported

Please don't use comments - on the rare occasion notification works it only goes to the poster who's answer you're commenting on.

Can I recommend WebHop as the simplest option, with moving the admin port (to any port of your choice) the best option (but the router has to support it).

...and just for the sake of clarity:

Yeah, that "it" is your router itself, not DynDNS. Do what Cry Havok recommended.

This is nothing to do with Linux. And reaching a certain device in your network is related to DHCP in nearly no way, except that your server ideally does not obtain its TCP/IP configuration via DHCP, but has static configuration.

Oops, this is even more unrelated. This setting is for resolving domains to IP addresses for your computer as a client, not as a server.

"DMZ"

It is not recommended to operate any devices in DMZ mode, as this is too unsecure. Better run your router and devices behind in NAT mode and configure proper port forwarding. It may be that you also can overcome your port 80 problem by doing so. (And, by the side, as you asked, your nameserver settings in resolv.conf would be the IP address of your router then.)

So, let me get this straight...

I can either set up my own Hosts file without forward porting or I can forward port and set up a DNS server.. In order to run a webserver from my Domain. Right?

so.. Is there a Host Default, which someone can put upload, showing the way to it should look with Lets say Two Computers on the router and one laptop.. I want access to the internet from all of them, and my webserver on my main linux ubuntu 11.04 natty server setup!

And if anyone has the Linksys set-up showing how the linksys should be set up for DNS?

I am trying to get a joomla site up on my webserver.. but so far only a folder shows up on my webserver named Joomla.

anyone want to help a guy walk thru the first webserver set up? I've been trying for 3 days now..lol
