I am trying out the new Wide Area Bonjour support. At home last night I set it up and my MacBook Pro registered its IP address. But when I came to work this morning, I notice my Mac hasn’t updated its IP address even though it has changed. Will OS X automatically update my Wide Area Bonjour IP address as I move from network to network? Update: After further testing it appears my company’s firewall is doing something that blocks the updates. What ports or protocols do we need to allow through the firewall? |

I would assume you need to allow DNS (53/UDP and 53/TCP) through, though to have access they'd also have to enable UPnP on the firewall - something I'd strongly recommend against in a corporate environment (seriously, it's a major security risk). You'll almost certainly get a more definitive answer on an Apple specific forum, one relating to Wide Area Bonjour - start here. Thanks. Of course we won’t let UPnP through the firewall, so I simply won’t update my IP at the office.

Have you read this article? You need to be running an update client, looking at that article. From that article it looks like I don’t need an update client. There is a section talking about the old way to do it, with a DDNS update client. The next section is the new way of doing it, which does not need a client. (Step 1: Tell your device how to authenticate, Step 2: That’s it!)
