General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi, I was out of town this week and discovered I couldn't remote into my home iMac.

Now I'm back I've done some investigation and learned that my router is updating dyndns with its new IP address and Dyndns knows about the new address, but it's not getting applied (i.e., my Hostname is still mapped to the old address and hence, not resolving to my router correctly).

When I login and select my hostname (I only have 1 Host configured), an editable box containing my previous IP is shown. Underneath is: "Your current location's IP address is w.x.y.z", which is the current IP address of my router.

I can click on that line and it updates the field with that new IP address but I don't want to have to do that manually. Dyndns clearly has received the update from my router but why is it not automatically updating?

Thanks Tony.

Why are you so sure about this? Does the router keep a log of the updates saying the updates were successful?

"Underneath is: "Your current location's IP address is w.x.y.z", which is the current IP address of my router."

This is just an information and shows your current public IP address, wherever you are, same as http://checkip.dyndns.com/. If I would login to your account, it would show my IP address instead. And it doesn't show the IP address of your router, but the IP address assigned to your connection by your ISP, whatever device is associated with it.

So, after all, your router's DDNS client is definitely not updating your IP address information for your DynDNS hostname. I can't give any further advice, as I don't know your router and cannot check it. You may also read this thread.

Hi! I have the same problem! It was working fine but is not automatically updating any longer...when I log on I have to put the new address is manually which spoils the point somewhat! I've checked the router the same info is on there...I have recently changed password...maybe thats it...

I have a similar, if not the same, problem. Basically, the same question...why isn't DNSUpdate informing DynDNS of my external IP-address? See the following thread:

http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/questions/4246/possible-problem-with-dnsupdate-on-mac

I have raised my own question, but it is related.

It sounds like something is still performing updates at the old location. Try changing the password on the account (and updating the configuration of the router to use the new password).

RotBlitz: thanks for your reply.

"my router is updating dyndns with its new IP address"

Why are you so sure about this? Does the router keep a log of the updates saying the updates were successful?

When I saw the "Your current location's IP address is ..." line, I was mistakenly thinking it obtained that from my router. So in that case you're right...maybe the router isn't properly updating. I'll research that.
Weird thing is that the router logs don't appear to record any router DDNS activity.

It used to work fine (i.e., I've had the router for a couple of years with no problems) and I haven't changed any DDNS config.

My router is a D-Link DIR-655.

Thanks again for your help.
