my SMTP server which has been successfully relaying email through my paid MailHop Outbound service for about 3 years is suddenly (without a single change on my end) getting timeouts from the outbound.mailhop.org host as indicated in the /var/log/maillog file and when I telnet port 25 to it. The host is responding however to pings. Perhaps SMTP service has stopped running on http://outbound.mail.org ?? This is really annoying, as 1) I'm paying for this service, and 2) my business depends on this. PLEASE FIX ASAP !!!! Maybe I need to go with some other vendor's mail relaying service? -keith |

It turned out that the http://outbound.mail.org SMTP was not reachable on port 25, BUT it was reachable when I reconfigured for the alternative port 2525. After 3 years of uninterrupted relaying on port 25, that port suddenly stopped working. I suspect the problem isn't on the DynDNS end, and is more likely due to my ISP (Verizon FiOS) suddenly deciding to block out-going connections on port 25. I have the Business version of their service (rather than residential) as I am running a business with the connection, and am paying a higher rate than the residential rate, and yet they still insist on blocking email. At one time they had even blocked incoming port 80 (web) connections, but eventually relented. Bastards!!! So much for Net Neutrality. -k |

This is a user to user forum, venting here won't get the attention of DynDNS. That said, there's nothing on the status page about any outage and testing it with the MXToolbox tools shows it's up and responding. If you're still having problems then it suggests that your ISP is your most likely cause and you should shout at them instead. |
