General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I have a Zoom 4501 3G router set up with Dynamic DNS, using a Verizon Wireless Broadband connection. When I set up the DynDNS account, it accurately picked up the router's IP address. It has not updated since. I cannot tell if the router has attempted to update DDNS. Their tech support is virtually worthless. They said the problem was probably with the ISP preventing DDNS. Calling Verizon's data support was nearly as pointless. They didn't even understand what DDNS is.

The questions I have are

1. how does a device signal the DynDNS servers that the IP address has changed, and

2. does DynDNS log the update activity associated with my account, if so, how do I access it?

2 answers:
  1. You can find the API documentation here
  2. Yes, if you have Dynamic DNS Pro

A well behaved client should only update when the IP changes, or when the WAN IP changes. Note that you need to ensure that your WAN IP is not an RFC-1918 address (that is, it does not look like 192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x to 172.31.x.x or 10.x.x.x). If it is then you cannot use the Dynamic DNS service for remotely accessing your devices.
