General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

I’m the IT manager for a small company. I want to put the DynDNS Updater on some employees’ laptops.

However, I need to type in our company DynDNS account name and password and, worse, once this is done it appears the user can actually see our account through the DynDNS Updater UI. (There is even a “Manage Hosts” button, but it seems buggy and I can’t get it to do anything.)

Is there a way to:

  • Generate a per-client password.
  • Not give the user access to see our DynDNS account, but still let them update their dynamic IP address.

Only the Dynect platform provides the option for accounts that can only update specific hostnames and not manage the account.

Hmm. Pricing for that platform looks to be 50 times more expensive than DynDNS. DynDNS starts at $45/yr; Dynect starts at $2,300/yr. I wish there was some middle-ground for small businesses. Thanks for the answer, though.

Do not answer with a comment, this has no reliable notification.

My question would be, why you would want to put the DynDNS Updater on some employees’ laptops? Is it because they shall use the Internet Guide when out of the work place? I'm afraid your approach is rather wrong then, because you cannot control other people's network, just your own. If you can confirm this being about Internet Guide, I may be able to provide more details on how you could achieve what you want.

Also, there are different alternative software Update Clients, which do not show any account internals and do not reveal the account's password.
