What is the easiest way to install http://DynDNS.com Internet Guide on my Windows computer? |
|
Enabling the Internet Guide through the Updater (ver 4+) seems to be the easiest method at first, but you should be aware of the following. In case you enable the Internet Guide in the Updater, it changes the TCP/IPv4 DNS settings of your computer's network connection to the Internet Guide DNS server addresses 216.146.35.35 and 216.146.36.36. However, setting external DNS server addresses on a local computer breaks local resolution, i.e. you will be facing troubles if you call any other devices in your LAN by name instead of by IP address. You even will no longer be able to call your router by its name. How to get around this:

The easiest way to set up Internet Guide is to install the DynDNS Updater for Windows and choose to enable Internet Guide during installation. If you have already installed the client, click the Advanced link in the client interface and check "Enable http://DynDNS.com Internet Guide on this PC" then click Apply. |

Once installed you'll find information on configuring it here. The categories are those used by Barracuda and you can lookup domains or IP addresses or report incorrect entries at Barracuda. |

Be careful if you install the DynDNS Updater; it will change your DNS settings and it won't change them back if you uninstall it. You will have to fix your network settings manually.
