Free Dynamic DNS accounts must be updated at least once every 35 days to keep them active. If you log into our web site in that time period it will prevent the account from being deleted if the IP hasn't changed. We do send out a warning via email after 30 days. If your IP address changes at least once every 30 days, you'll never receive this email and never have to worry about the host being deleted.

Also, you can purchase a DynDNS Pro upgrade which removes the need to touch your hosts every 35 days.

And it's worth saying that the email address for the account should be checked, and any spam filtering settings checked, to identify why the notification email wasn't seen.

If you want to know why this happened and how to avoid it in future, please ask your own question.

My account was just deleted, but I did NOT receive the warning notice, plus my router updates my Dynamic DNS automatically every 6 hours or in case of an IP change. I've been using it straight for about a year now, but my account was flatout deleted without warning. I just recreated the account using the EXACT SAME SETTINGS so I know it was deleted. It works again now, but that's lame I didn't get the warning.

This is a user to user forum - if you want to complain to DynDNS then you have to do so directly.

Missed a similar email by a week, got stuck in my spam folder (though all previous messages have come into inbox - this one carried a warning it might not be from the sender)

So there goes my account of at least ten years, and all the memorized subdomains and hard coded html in old domains that used to be available (homeip.net) to send to my webcams, etc.

I have a lot of editing to fix it and not going to use dyndns to do it, thanks no thanks -bye bye

Ironic that the letter starts with Dear Valued Customer:

and as this forum states you have to complain to DYNDNS but there is no contact info and no support unless you are a paying customer.

not feeling valued, not going to promote the product anymore. http://no-ip.com at least gives you 60 days, not five days' warning. It really has felt like they wanted to get rid of free users. Done.

So, your mail provider filtered out DynDNS's email as spam and it is somehow DynDNS's fault?

This is a change to the way that DYNDNS operates. I have been using DYNDNS for almost 10 years. One entry, that is all. My Debian system is configured to check the IP and submit an update if it changes. Well, it does not change much. Maybe once a year, and for 10 years this has been good.

Now, all of a sudden, without warning, DynDNS requires that I log into my account, or change the IP address on my host at least once every 30 days. My IP does not change, so in order to keep my account open, I must log into the website at least once a month.

This renders the free DYNDNS service essentially worthless.

A month ago, I got an email that my account would be deleted. So I opened a ticket, and they said my record was up to date, and AOK. Now, today, my entire account is deleted. No warning. That is RUDE.

Me thinks the DYNDNS people just want to get rid of all of the free accounts period.

Can anyone suggest which of the multitude of other Dynamic DNS providers we should move to?

I have been a DynDNS user for approximately 6,5 years, and the oldest service expiration warnings I have kept in my personal archive are from January 2008. I'm not sure when they actually first started with inactivity expirations, but this is not a new phenomenon. If you run Debian, then why don't you just run ddclient with a max update interval of 28 days (which is the default in later ddclient releases)? Problem solved.

Hello Viking.. I am running Inadyn on my Debian system, and it is configured to do forced updates every fifteen days. It has been working fine for about 10 years, and suddenly, DynDNS changes their policies and deleted my account without warning. This is just rude.

No matter though. I really do not mind paying for the service. But due to the RUDENESS, I won't be paying DYNDNS. I just enrolled at http://NO-IP.com and signed up for their paid service. Only $9.95 a year (less than half what DYNDNS charges) and you get a $5.00 off coupon so the first year is only FIVE BUCKS.

I am outta here.

Ah, perhaps it's an abuse type issue then and not just an expiration? Well, I'm just thinking out loud. Good luck.
