Hi everyone I am having problems getting RDP working when I access my home network remotely. I have followed the configuration and troubleshooting advice on the site already. RDP to my (Vista Ultimate) PC works fine when I connect from inside my home network. But it fails when I try from an external network, despite the router's firewall log showing that it allowed the RDP packet and forwarded it to the PC. I have tried disabling the Windows firewall on the PC, but that didn't help, and I can't find any indication of an issue on the PC. The PC is also a clean rebuild with no software installed. Any suggestions? Regards Alain |

Have you used the Open Port tool to check that the port is visible? Have you read this guide? I have configured my system as per the advice in that and other guides, i.e. fixed IP, port forwarding, connectivity tested inside the network etc. The open port tool indicates the port is visible, and my router's firewall log shows it passing the RDP packet to the PC. But I can't tell if the problem is with my router or the PC itself as I have found no logs indicating a problem.

Note that comments are just that, comments. They don't have reliable notification so don't use them to add information. I'd suggest you install WireShark on the PC you want to RDP to. That'll allow you to see if the packets are reaching your computer and if a reply is happening. |
