I'm reporting a possible bug in DNDUpdate, the utility designed to notify DynDNS of IP-address changes. I have two computers, and from my Leopard system (L), I used DSNUpdate to update a newly assigned GoogleWifi address. That went fine. Then, from my Tiger system (T), I used a browser to login to http://DynDSN.org where I manually changed to IP-address associated with my http://dguertin.dnsalias.net domain name, the one that had the GoogleWifi address. The manually assigned address was different from the GoogleWifi address. Then, from (L), I could not get DNSUpdate to notify DynDSN about the correct address. I changed the 64.9.239.103 address in /Library/Preferences/DNSUpdate/Users/dickguertin@DynDNS.org.duuser, making it 127.0.0.1 just to be sure it didn't match anything, yet DSNUpdate ignored it, and did NOT store the external IP-address back into the plist. I believe that if the IP-address returned from the modem/router is different from the address stored in the plist, DNDUpdate should report it to DynDNS, and store the new IP-address in the plist. Any time the actual IP-address changes in the modem, and differs from the plist value, then DNSUpdate should report the new address, and store it in the plist. The log says it is storing the external address, yet the plist remained unchanged. Is this a bug? |

Which DNSUpdate program are you referring to? The tool called DNSUpdate is not provided by DynDNS, but the DynDNS Updater for Mac is. For the former you need to contact support@dnsupdate.org for assistance. For official support with the official client you need to contact DynDNS since this is a user to user forum. I'm using DNSUpdate provided by Julien Jalon. May that is a different product. However, I have gotten around the problem with my own AppleScript and Unix-Shell-Script. You can cancel this problem

Yes, DNSUpdate by Julien Jalon is not an official DynDNS product, as his own page makes clear. As for closing this "problem", you can do that by ticking the relevant answer. I'm new to this community, so I don't know what you mean by "ticking the relevant answer". Does that mean clicking on the check-mark next to "link|flag", or something else?

I suspect that if you edit DNSUpdate's cache file while it's running you'll need to restart it, since it has no reason to assume anybody would do that. If you do that and still have a problem, do report it to the author for their consideration. I do NOT update the plist while DNSUpdate or its daemon are running. DynDSN is the "author" of DNSUpdate, and I thought this forum was the way to report problems. If not, then please supply me with an email address where I can send a report. There is a related thread submitted by someone else: http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/questions/2831/ip-address-not-updating-automatically I auume that person is running DNSUpdate.

Yes - the way this (and similar forums) work is that by doing so you're closing the question and showing others where to start if they have a similar problem. I assume you mean I should click the check-mark. I did that, and tried to UP the Vote, but got rejected because I need a "15 reputation" to do that. I can't even vote for my own question?
