General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi Guys,

I am trying to fit a dvr camera alarm. I have the alarm wired in factory and displaying correctly via internal ip address. I have set up my account in dyndns. when I try and connect via the internet it can't resolve the address. I have set up my dvr using port 80. My router is a Netgear DG834G. I have added dyndns to the services list, using port 80. I have also added a incoming firewall rule to allow access to the dyndns service to the local address 192.168.0.4 which is the dvr box. I can ping my dyndns hostname OK.

Any suggestions?

Garry

1 Answer:

It could be any number of things, including

  • Your DynDNS hostname resolves to your LAN IP address, not your WAN IP
  • Your port forwarding on the router is wrong
  • You also have an ADSL modem
  • Your WAN address isn't a public IP address

I'd suggest you work through this guide and then edit your question to include your hostname and step you've reached if you still have problems.
