General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

We seem to be having some issues setting up our DNS records for a subdomain to point to our NING site.

We have a registered sub domain - http://test.example.com and are looking for this to point to our NING Address - http://example.ning.com

We have created a CNAME record that points to the NING IP Address. However when the settings kick in and we go to http://test.example.com all we get is a 404. We have tried all combinations of CNAME and Type A records (though interestingly it won't let us create a CNAME and Type A record together) and it just won't work.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris

CNAME records must be for hostnames, not IP address (eg test.example.com CNAME http://example.ning.com).

If you post your real domain then others can look at the records and see if there's anything obvious.

As for not being able to use CNAME and A that's expected - CNAME effectively says look over there for everything about me. As such it isn't compatible with any other record types.

Thanks for the reply.

The real domain is http://staff.zerowastescotland.org.uk and we are trying to point in to http://zwstest.ning.com

Many thanks,

Chris

I've just checked and that 404 error is from your web server (or at least the web server on the shared hosting platform you're using if you're using a shared hosting platform). Make sure that the web server is configured to host staff.zerowastescotland.org.uk.

Hi There,

Just to say we have managed to sort the issue out. Many thanks for your advice. Greatly appreciated.
