I am trying to setup my "not apps" google account to send through the relay. I want to be able to remove the "Sent on behalf of {gmail account}" from my emails.

I have purchased the Outbound Mailhop (I use the inbound to get my emails into gmail) and I am trying to

Send mail through your SMTP server?

When you send mail as Martin@mydomain.com, the mail can either be sent through Gmail or through http://mydomain.com SMTP servers.
Send through Gmail (easier to set up)
Send through http://mydomain.com SMTP servers (recommended for professional domains – Learn more)

SMTP Server: http://outbound.mailhop.org 465
Username: mydyndnsusername
Password: mydyndnspassword
X Always use a secure connection (SSL) when sending mail

When I try to submit this I get the following error:

Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
[Server response: 535 Incorrect authentication data code(535) ]

How do I get passed this?

As long as you have access to MailHop Outbound and are using the correct DynDNS username and password, the only thing I can think of would be Google not supporting some non-ASCII characters in either your username or password.

Also remember that your DynDNS username is not the same as your e-mail address (a common misunderstanding).

What does the 535 message indicate that the problem is?

I was not suggesting that you did not know what an e-mail address is. Quite a lot of web sites and software products actually do use e-mail addresses as usernames. And, on the http://DynDNS.com site, it is possible to log in using either your username or your e-mail address (or at least it was, I have never tried it personally). The latter has led some users to believe that their e-mail address is also their username. We do encounter that misconception from time to time here.

That simply means that the SASL authentication failed because of a wrong username and/or password.

So this seames to have fixed itself. I was sucessfully able to add the mailhop Outbound today where it did not work within an hout of purchasing... Very happy :)

Great to hear it! Perhaps it was simply a delay then, before your service subscription was activated in the system.
