General DNS & Domains Dyn Email Update Clients Dyn Developer

Hi. Im tryin to run client update software. But what about if you are using the service webhop? I mean you choose a port to do the mapping with your public ip, my Internet service provider use the standard http port 80 to manage the routers, so to my dvr I put the 81. thats why i use the webhop service, to put the :81 at the adress final. So, how can the dvr update the public ip with the configuration?: Server name: "what do i must to put here?" User name: Password: Domain: "what do i must to put here?"

a lot of thanks if you help me

1 Answer:

The recommended way to use a WebHop in your situation is this:

  1. Create a normal hostname ("Host with IP address"). With the help of an update client, this hostname will always point to your current IP address. For example's sake, let us call it myhost.dyndns.org.

  2. Create a WebHop host, let us call it mywebhop.dyndns.org. Point it to your normal hostname, for example http://myhost.dyndns.org:81 (a URL pointing to your normal host on port 81).

  3. Configure your update client to update myhost.dyndns.org.

This way the WebHop's destination URL will never need to change. You only need to keep myhost.dyndns.org up-to-date with your current IP (with the help of an update client).
