Hi, I am having trouble connect to my office PC using the VNC remote desktop application. I think I have ticked off every step in the tutorials here but I still cannot connect to the PC. I have setup my dyndns host as myname.dnsalias.com My public IP is 81.130.xxx.xxx and is a dynamic IP address My local IP is 192.168.1.xxx In my router firewall I have opened ports 5500 5800 & 5900 for the PC I want to remote to. On this PC I have installed the Updater and have the green tick. DNSCog gives the results: ;; ANSWER SECTION: http://myname.dnsalias.com. 60 IN A 81.130.xxx.xxx and this IP matches that listed above and is what is in my firewall rule for VNC So, I go into VNC Viewr on the machine I want to use to remote to my office PC and I get a 'failed to connect to server' error. I have tried to remote into another PC in the office that is on a static IP assigned by my ISP of 81.142.xxx.xxx and I can remote desktop to that computer without any problems. If anyone can assist I would be most grateful. many thanks |

Hi there, Have you got the Windows Firewall service running in the background on the remote PC? Hope this helps Derek ps. I also find the http://GRC.COM site excellent for testing open ports however this needs to be run from the PC being tested. |

Only thought I have is your ISP could be blocking port 5500. This is assuming of course that you have done the port forwarding configuration correctly and that your computer is answering connection requests on port 5500. Ive set up my firewall rules for the PC I wnat remote access to and have set 5500, 5800 and 5900. When using the open port too 5500 times out but I can reach 5800 and 5900. When setting up tightVNC I can only seereference to ports 5900 & 5800 so not quite sure what 5500 has to do with things?

The hostname, that resolves to the office's WAN IP? You've checked that there aren't any other routers involved at the office? Have you checked with the open port tool that the port is showing as open? |

Thanks for the reply. We only have 1 router here and I have set the firewall up for TCP ports 5500 5800 5900 On the port open tool ports 5800 & 5900 are OK but 5500 times out, even though it should be open as in my router control panel I have added that port to the firewall rules for the PC I want to remote to. |
