Portfolio for client web design sites?

I would like to showcase my web design portfolio and give each of my clients a preview of their site as it is being built. I have so far been doing this by creating a different DDNS hostname for each client, and configuring Apache virtual hosts to respond to each with the appropriate site.

I would like a more professional look for my clients than just http://client1.dyndns.org, http://client2.dyndns.org, etc., while still hosting the client web sites on my home computer.

What options do I have?

There are 2 main options:

  1. Dynamic DNS Pro would allow you to use http://clientX.myname.dyndns.org, which isn't much cleaner
  2. Custom DNS would allow you to use http://clientX.example.com (assuming your domain is http://example.com)

The particular advantages of Custom DNS are:

  1. It links the preview to you
  2. You don't have to wonder what will happen if somebody else is hosting a domain on a site with the client's name, and they visit the wrong site
