I'm looking for a way to update contacts, calender, etc.. with an android phone without using Google (for security reasons). Is there any application in Linux that will allow such updates directly to my NAS through http://DYNDNS.com? |

I use Funambol's SyncML server for this. I have a Droidx and I use the Synthesis SyncML client for Android which you can download here: http://synthesis.ch/dl_client.php?bp=CPDA&pv=ANDROID Funambol also offers SyncML clients for Outlook, Thunderbird and other mail clients. Here is the Funambol download page where you can download their server and clients: https://www.forge.funambol.org/download/#start Personally, I use Thunderbird and Evolution on Ubuntu Linux which I sync with my Droidx. All of these software products are Open Source (free) except for the Synthesis SyncML Android client which is $22.00. FYI, Gordon |

On a device with a good busybox (you may need root for that) you could do it with a shell script using wget or something. I once wrote such a script for an embedded device but unfortunately I lost it. But I'm sure google can help here. |

There are no DynDNS services that will do that for you. The Dynamic DNS service may be of use to you, in that it will allow you to easily connect to any service you do run yourself. In theory Microsoft Exchange, or anything that's compatible, will allow you to synchronise email, contacts and a calendar. What you chose will depend on what operating system you're running and how much you want to spend. |
