All the instructions I come across confuse me and I can't get what I would like, done. I am simply trying to get the Romote Desktop connection that comes with Windows to work and so far everything I have found has just put me nowere. Since I am not very sure on where to start I can't give any configuration information other than the fact I use a Linksys WRT300N v0.93.9 firmware. (I don't think I can update it without messing up the internet config) Thanks. |

Start with this guide. Windows Remote Desktop uses port Ok well I have seen the guide but I am confused by "Step 3 - Initial Testing" the device is a computer. So should I type the internal IP of the computer into another computer?

Yep, exactly this! Also, do not respond with a commment, this has no reliable notification. Better add another answer.

Ok well I typed in the IP that the computer I hope to remote desktop with and got a "Internet Explorer can not display the webpage" message. What did I do wrong? Part of the IP typed in was "192.168.2.XXX". The router itself has a different IP that I know that goes like "69.37.XXX.XXX". Oh and I did this with another comptuer so don't ask if I was using the computer with the 192.168.2.XXX IP.

You are not trying to establish a remote desktop connection with a browser, do you? 8-o |

I used the browser to try that because I wasn't told to use anything differently, I am trying to get RDC to work. The guide I got a link to says: "At this point you should be able to connect to the device, using the chosen IP address, from another computer on the LAN (it is important not to test from the device running the service). Until you get this to work there's no point in going further." So to acess it I typed the IP into a different computer. Also, remote desktop connection (XP) still couldn't connect to the computer. Every time I try I tell it to bypass "TS Gateway" becuase I don't have one at this time. (XP) is the operating system I put it there in case other windows have a different way to use that service

You must activate Remote Desktop on the computer you try to access first to be able to connect from another computer. This will listen on port 3389 then. No way to connect via Remote Desktop without this. Then you can access that computer with
or
The method is identical across all Windows versions from 2000 to 7. You cannot RDP to a Windows XP Home, however. For Remote Desktop the free Dynamic DNS service (which you call host services) is fine. |
